Being a whooping 3 miles from the rally start, my co-drive and special lady friend has expressed a willingness to host a little pre-rally cookout at her place on Thursday night. She's in Newburyport one block off the main drag with a nice, small patio area that can accommodate a dozen or so for burgers and beers. And if we overflow, there are numerous adult beverage establishments mere blocks away. So how many people are staying in the area Thursday night and would anyone be interested in joining us? Let me know and what time you might be making it over to our neck of the woods and we'll figure out a game plan.

I might be game depending on how my prep goes. Im from Ipswich. My co-driver wont be there though.
He is working nights that week and will be getting off at 6:45am on Friday just before the rally. The beginning of the day will be harsh for him so i may be needing some help with spotting at times but for the night drive we will hopefully be in good shape.

I'll be checking into my hotel on thursday night but might be able to make it. It'll be nice to meet some of the people before the rally.

This may be a possibility for me also... Just have to finalize my night-before plans and make sure I'll be staying up that way.

As far as I know it is. Nate is on the west coast right now, so he might not have access to the forums right now...

Yes, still on. I'm in Portland right now (then drive back up to Seattle, fly to CO for a week and finally home) and the hostess is in ID rafting on the Snake River (lucky), but we'll both be back in plenty of time to be ready and host. (Does this qualify us and the furtherest to travel for the rally?)
I'll hit the post up for a head count the week of so we can make sure to have enough burgers and beer on hand.
Safe travels to everyone else heading over and for those of you we don't see Thursday night we'll see you Friday morning.

Okay, here’s the full skinny on Checkpoint -1: The Cookout: WHERE: 16 Prospect St, Newburyport. Big white house on corner of Prospect & Otis. Come around to the side/back (you’ll see my ugly yellow WRX wagon in the driveway on Otis.) If you can get to the house, then you might not get lost on the rally. With all the one way streets and lack of parking (Yankee Homecoming festivities will be going on – more on that later), it’ll be a challenge. Call me if you need help. WHEN: Feel free to drop by any time after 6. We’ll be cooking by 7. Probably wrapping up by 10 to either sleep (recommended for me) or to go out in lovely Newburyport. WHAT: Burgers, dogs, salad, cake, beer. If you’re one of them vegamaterians, let me know and we’ll make sure to have something for you to gnaw on as well. If you want to bring along something for the grill (other than burgers or dogs) or your favorite adult beverage, please do. As mentioned before, Newburyport’s Yankee Homecoming will be in full effect, including the Bed Races on Federal St (a few blocks over) at 6 PM. Those are REALLY exciting , but they will make parking a little tricky. So just be aware of that and one way streets and cops and lots of tourist being, well, tourist. Let me know if you are planning on coming and eating so we can plan for the food. Call, email or post any questions. And call if you are lost or getting here late and wondering where the party has moved on to for the evening. See you all either Thursday night (hopefully) or Friday morning! Oh and if it's raining, we're still on, we'll just take it inside. And don't forget to hit up the thread with a +# so we can get a head count. Nate 978.204.1171 natefield@gmail.com
