With radar detectors you get what you pay for. Don't go sub-par on a detector. It's WELL worth spending the $ on a good one.
I don't know about the passport. I use the Beltronics RX65 and LOVE it.

I have a v1 and the arrows help out when you trying to see where your getting hit from. Some people are all about the GPS based escorts though.

I had the 8500 X50 and I LOVED it. Never really got false alarms, and worked quite well. It had a glitch where it would popup saying SERVICE, but it was because it was an older one.
The 9500 GPS controlled one is pretty baller... But thats a HELL of a deal for that X50.. I paid $20 less for mine USED.

I have always been partial to the V1, just because it was the one in the back of car and driver my whole life growing up. But it is a bit pricey. I don't think I need the gps, so I am fine looking for ones without. Does anyone have a reason for me not to get this x50? Does anyone have a reason for me to get the V1 above others? (I really like the v1, always have, like how it looks... but I am having a hard time justifying the extra $100+ for it)

The V1 and 9500 Are the top of the line right now, V1 can always be sent back in to get up dated and make sure its all working right, plus it tells you where the cop or trap is coming from, it saved my ass in VT or NH when a charger came flying up from behind us

so if you had to buy a radar detector now, would you buy the 8500, or would you spend the extra 150 for the V1?

Are you excessively speeding everyday? Do you constantly worry about tickets? Then maybe spend the extra for the V1... Otherwise.. the x50 is fine.

Sounds good enough for me, just bought the x50. We will see how she works on the rally ... I need to figure out a good way to power all of these in car toys now.

great, I'll probably pick that up once I get my next car. I plan on doing a bunch of wiring for all of these things (gps, camera, inverter, radar, cb) but don't really feel like spending all the time running wires in this car if in a month or two I have to rip it all out and do it again in a different car.
