I'm a long time fan of rallying. In all forms...
I just signed up for the Spring run. My son and I will be doing it in a Cooper S. it should be fun!
I have just joined the forums and I've not seen much discussion in terms of TSD rallies. Specifically for beginners...
Are there any in the works?

I'd love to put on a TSD, but it will take a large crew to make it happen the way I want it to.
I have a few things that I'm working on for the future. 1 being a cross country week long trip and 1 being a day long TSD for amateurs.
There are a bunch of TSDs in New England, but my car is not set up for most of them with the majority being 60+ % unpaved roads.

OK. Here's a stupid question. What is TSD? ? Sorry, new to the terminology of this sport.

TSD stands for Time Speed Distance.
For the most part it is not a "race" per say. It relies heavily on navigational skills.
In most of these rallies, the goal is to go from point to point relying on 2 out of the 3 variables:
For example, you know how far the next checkpoint is and what the average speed that you need to maintain but it is up to you to figure out when you are supposed to be there. The closer you arrive at the check point to the calculated time, the better off you are.

Neither is mine! That is exactly the reason why I was hoping for an "entry level" one :-) ...but my car is not set up for most of them with the majority being 60+ % unpaved roads.

Maybe I'll set up a totaly newb TSD for the fall run. Something simple that will not require many people to pull off.
I'll keep you guys updated when the SCCA does another one at NHIS. The one we did from there last year was a BLAST!

You should have seen us in the Z driving down unpaved pothole filled muddy dirt roads, dodging fallen tree limbs and boulders at 30 while 4 wheel drive trucks drove slower than us!
We actually came in something like 6th or 8th which isn't shabby considering it was our first TSD. Had a blast there, a couple NER participants went too.

yip 6th and 15 seconds off perfect. Not bad at all. It was a blast too. People loved seeing the Z on the dirt back roads of NH lol. It was sooo much fun.
The best part was the 2 laps of NHIS in the Z at the end of the run. Unfortunately it was pitch black and we could only see what was in the head lights. It was still a great ride.

None of our cars are prepared to handle dirt roads, but, with enough notice, I'm more than willing to help with putting it together. Maybe I'll set up a totaly newb TSD for the fall run. there are plenty of paved back roads in southern RI, eastern CT. it all depends on how far you want to go to start...

NH as well. The onyl thing about the TSDs is that most of them include unpaved roads. There are a few that use paved roads only, but they are not as common.
Hell, if I could find a backer I would love to set up a monthly run, but that would not be cheap to do on my end. Who knows what the future will bring...

Any TSDs you guys know about, post up. I'm sure we can get a crew together for some of them.

My daily grind is doing computer field service all over eastern New England. Calculating routes and how to get where I'm going on time is a constant. A TSD rally would be one I'd sit out, seems too much like "work" rather than fun from my perspective.

Its things like right at boat, left at flashing yellow, SOOO much fun...

lol I remember 1 of the directions that we had.
It said 35 / 1.3 had a cross with a small square on the right with a "> at the big donut" next to it.
This meant go 35 mph for 1.3 miles and turn right at the big donut. There is something square as a reference point at the donut.
We are going 35 mph and come up to the 1.3 mile mark. We are looking for something square with a big donut on it. Nothing around... Did we pass it? Are we far enough? There was a 4 way intersection with a square pillar on our right but no donut... We were stumped. We stopped at the intersection for a minute trying to figure out if THAT was our next direction or if we still had to proceed... OR if we passed it. Then I noticed someone did a big donut in the center of the intersection.
The entire rally was like that. We did pretty good, but we missed our FIRST turn lol. It was a blast and I cant' wait to do another one this year.
