It very smart to run a 2 GPS system because as they can overlap each other in case one of them poop's out. I love these types of toys. What did yours cost? I need a GPS again. I had a Garmin 300 but sold it for some stupid reason again that I forget.

wow that shiny case really, REALLY shows off the fingerprint smudges. eep! i've got an old old old handheld GPS (black & white heh) my brother has a newer magellan color handheld, but i really want a designed-for-in-car unit. both for the rally and for everyday use. i'll be watching this thread closely.

TOM-TOM as well. With the better units you can download map updates, share maps, etc... FREE of charge. I believe Magellan makes you buy the new maps as they become available.

hey give me a break about the finger prints!!! heh!!! ummm i spent $449 at office depot (plus tax of course!) and yes come time for the rally i will wipe the finger prints off!!! i was thinking about the tomtom or the garmin but i decided on the navigon unit because the company puts alot oem gps units for high end car companies! which companies idk!! but hey if the only thing it does is get me from point a to point b via the quickest route i will go with it!!!

heh i'm just bustin on ya for the fingerprints. i took a picture recently of my kegfridge (we homebrew... i recently upgraded our standard chrome faucets to all-stainless ventmatic faucets... anyway) and the black plastic tap handles looked perfectly normal under normal light, but darn that flash made them look like they were crawling with disease. heh. oh, and what's this .... "tax" you talk about? dunno.

Well, I should get some pics of the built in unit in the Audi... It seems decent, but does not have the logging function, and I think that is really nice. It is horrid... but I am thinking of getting a nuvi before the rally so if I figure that right, that would be 3 GPS's ... Again, just to help with my sanity, when does something become overkill.?

well, i decided to be an early adopter for once. i'll let you know how my new www.dash.net is when i make a run to visit my folks in western new york this week. i'm thinking the rural stuff thru vermont will be disappointing as it relies on internet connectivity for the more interesting bells & whistles (their cell provider doesn't have anything in VT yet). but into NY it will light up again. it still has the maps and i think about a million POIs built in, but being connected to the 'net gives you the realtime mesh-network traffic data and internet POI searching.

um, if you are going fast enough who cares about speed traps... But then there are all the detection / jamming side of the electronics, god this hobby gets expensive... -Dave

apparently you didn't see the picture of the Ford Focus in my avatar. there are guys who get 300hp out of 2.0L in these things, but they replace all the internals with forged/cryo stuff, and go with big boost. i have money for .... a GPS unit. heh.

a little off topic butt..... I'd take your Focus over the new ones any day... OH, look the new one has Sync installed! ...BFD Too bad the new Euro edition Focus's kick the new American editions butt. If only FORD would bing in a WRC inspired 4wd version, I'd be there.
