Some of you may have already heard that I am planning something big for our 5 year run in 2010.
Well... It's not in stone yet, but I pretty much got the ok today to end our 2010 run at the Playboy mansion if we would like to do a coast to coast. The thought is to leave New England on Monday morning and arrive in Ca. on a Friday. No over night drives, breakfast and dinner on the road at real restaurants, nice hotels every night and a private party for NER participants only at the Playboy mansion.
I did the math and at 50 teams/100 people. $80,000.00 To rent the mansion, = $1600.00 per team $200.00 per night for hotels Mon - Thurs = $800.00 $200.00 per day Mon - Thurs in food for 2 people = $800 $100.00 for the pot for the poker hand
Total of $3,300.00 for 2 people.
I don't think that $1650.00 per person for a 5 day 4 night vacation and a private party at the playboy mansion is bad at all.
Now... If I can find a sponsor to cover the mansion fee I could invest the money I figured for the rental into a REAL prize.
So anyone know someone with deep pockets?

ALthough I know you are looking to expand, and I commend you for it, as you increase in price/features your rally then competes with other "higher tier" ralllies and that could end up hurting you in the end. Just my opinion, but part of the charm to your rally's is that its a great value for what you get and it's affordable to many just getting interested in this type of event who would be normally be priced out of a rally like the A.K.A. Rally, Great American Rally, etc. Like any other sport, you need feeder events and top tier events, be it Autocross vs HPDE track days, vs Bounderant Driving School or NERally, vs AKA, vs GUMBALL Rally. I don't mean this as a put down in any way, I just think you've found a real nich here and have the opportunity to exploit a real market to the common car enthusiast. ALTHOUGH if you could manage to get the names of some oil executives, I'm sure they would have more than enough disposable income to participate (dirty ba#tards that they are)...

We'll still be doing the New England Rally, travelling around the 6 states of New England, but for our 5th anniversary we wanted to do something special. Mr. Heffner has a soft spot for charity work, especially involving children.
We're still trying to keep costs to a minimum for everyone who joins us on the 5th year anniversary extravaganza.. or whatever we call it. lol. But rest assured, the NER will ALWAYS have the 6 state-3 Days-1500 mile poker rally.

I understand your point Sean and I do agree 100%. This would not be instead of the August run. This would be it's own run. The August rally will always be there. We will still have a 5 year New England Run and I have no intention on raising the entry fee from $600. I like the affordable event and the people that it brings. I also like being able to get new people into rallies.
Although I've always had plans to have a cross country run. It's just a matter of time before it works out.
And thanks for the input. I appreciate everyone's point of view and ideas.

well, if and when you get this going for a dead on fact, like you said..set in stone..it would be nice to have at least 6 months notice before we have to pay for it so we can start saving..at least those who's incomes aren't as high as others.

Oh you will get more than a year notice. I will want everyone that wants to come to have enough time to make the finances work.

Good luck.. I hope it goes down!!! But, you'll have to make it 21 & over, people who are established, have good jobs, can take the time off & can afford it!!!Hopefully we can be of some help..will start looking for deep pockets!! All of the people I deliver to are multi-millionaires!! lots of them with cars full of garages!!! we're always talking cars with them....might as well start hustling some sponsors!!!!maybe we'll get lucky!!! p.s. I have a few business cards in my wallet from some peeps I met during the GAR who have deep pockets!!! mine right now have holes in them!!!LOL!!! But who knows!!!!! 2010 HERE WE COME!!!!!! P.P.S..don't take this the wrong way!! but, for all you broke dicks out there, if you start saving $117.85 a month now..in 28 months you'll have the entry fee!!!!!LOL!!!!! ;D

by 2010 we'll either have the means to take our hobby and enjoyment to this kind of level, or we'll have kids and be unable to disappear for a couple weeks at a time. i have to 'stay tuned' on this one. heh.

this sounds like a lot of fun and a great idea but i think it would be tough to get 50 teams to sign up.

Sean I wish you luck!! and will do all i can to help..As for everyone else Sean has a tough job ahead so if you dont like the idea or cant afford it, dont sweaet it the..The aug. run will still be there. Although the list of participants is pretty short, only 20 cars and 2 of them are mine, & with only a couple of weeks left to pay your entry fee!!!!I think thats what you guys should be concentrating on !!! Sean I also work for the L.A & LV marathon, I will talk to the marketing guy (John) and see if he can help..We have several big sponsors for those events!!!Wish me luck!! & yes, I'll take the purple vinyl!!!! By the way gas was only $300 and change last year for GAR so add a buck a gal. its not bad and we averaged 82 mph.. Good luck!!! ;D

other "high profile" rallies get media attention (and hence good sponsors) by attaching themselves to humanitarian causes. the Fireball Run benefits the Child Rescue Network where each team is assigned a missing child, the kids picture is put on their car and they're required to distribute as many flyers as possible. after the 2007 rally, 11 children were located. i assume the Fireball is also a pretty expensive event to run since they rent out track space (i guess that's why their membership is limited to CEOs and celebrities) if you cut that stuff out, it might get more affordable.
