Ok people, the 2009 NER is in planning stages. I have a few stops already secured and I have something in store that I'm sure you will all love for an ending location.
That being said, I'm curious... what are some places you would like to stop at for checkpoints?
There are 2 conditions:
Must be a historic or scenic location. Must be in 1 of the 6 New England states.
Other than that you can pick any location, in any town, in any of the 6 New England states.

Top of Mt. Washington, at the observatory. Gillette's Castle, Haddam, CT (WIlliam Gillettte, the man that played the orginal Sherlock Holmes hand built the home out of stone and wood) Cathedral Ledge in North Conway. Old Orchard Beach, ME MT. Ascutney, VT (they run hill climbs up that road). Either Point Judith, RI or Fort Wetherall or Beavertail state park in Jamestown, RI (all awesome views). Downtown Newport, RI would be cool but parking is a BEOTCH for 30 cars in Summer unless you went to Brenton Point, farther along the Newport coast.

Great ideas.. We've actually discussed several of them for future rallies. We stayed at the Mt. Washington hotel on the Fall run, but I'd love to go up to the top of the mountain.

Newport is a good spot, so is Salem. And for Connecticut i'd say Foxwoods, that would be a time.

i love mt washington (i'm a member of the observatory) but i'm not so sure about that being a stop, if you have a fear of heights it's pretty extreme.
miller state park has an auto road that goes up pack monadnock, it's only about 2 miles and i'm pretty sure it's paved all the way. they say you can see downtown boston on a clear day.

Can't really do Foxwoods. I'd have to change the age from 18+. There is no way we could go to foxwoods and not hit the craps tables.
