I want to start the 2009 New England Rally in Rhode Island, but I guess Connecticut would be ok too.
I have a couple of places in mind and I'm sure we could use a Tire Warehouse in either state, but I'd like to hear where you guys would like to start at.
There are a few conditions I have to this.
1) Tell me where 2) Tell me why there? 3) Is it a scenic, historic, educational or fun location? 4) Is it a public or private location? 5) Are you A) The person I can talk to about this location? or B) Do you know who I can talk to about this location C) I'm on my own just a suggestion. 6) If not a historic or scenic location, will they do anything for us? 7) Is there a cost associated with use of this location? If so do you know how much?
The 2009 New England Rally will be limited to 30 vehicles so we will use 35 vehicles as a reference as to how much space we need.
Don't just post "Lets go here". Give me some info as to why you say we should "go here".
Again... It MUST be in RI or CT, but that is my only requirement.

I would have said point Judith but we did that this year. Devil's Hopyard state park just off of RT85 in East Haddam, CT is also cool, with I believe, three separate parking locations/lots along the park route. It's a CT state park so all the normal park rules would apply as far as premission. The road in is like a rollercoaster but there's no shoulder. If you make a mistake and blow a turn you'll hit a tree, rock ledge or wall so you have to use some caution. The lot by Chapman Falls is approx the end of the fun part of the entrance road and is the last of the three parking areas in the State Park. Gillette's Castle, also within approx. 15 mi of Devils Hopyard is also really cool. Another state park, the castle was hadbuilt in the early 1900's by the man that used to play the original Sherlock Holmes. He and his man-servent built the house by hand, including all the wooden locks, etc. It even has a mini train set running on the grounds. Cool for little kids. Pretty scenic as well as it is set on a hilltop overlooking the CT River. info on Devil's hopyard www.stateparks.com/devils_hopyard.htmlinfo on Gillettes Castle.. www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2716&Q=325204In Rhode Island, on Jamestown just before the Newport bridge (and toll) there is Beavertail state park on the southern point of the island of Jamestown, with a very cool lighthouse and water that drops to >120ft just off shore. We go diving there some times during slack tide. www.riparks.com/beaverta1.htmAnother park similar to Ft. Pophamn is Fort Wetherill, State Park, which is just up the road from Beavertail. Old bunkers to expplore, and if you park in the middle lot, 20-30ft from the pavement is some of the most scenic 100ft. cliffs in all of New England, looking out to the southern ocean from Naragansett Bay. www.riparks.com/fortweth.htm

I agree with Ryan, some more of the stops on this event should be at places where the kids we benefit can get some benefit. If we are already willing to go to downtown boston, then we can at least put a smile on someone besides a valets face...
I love the idea of going to hospitals or other institues like that that we can see and have fun with the kids we do this to benefit....

I think you should use a boys/girls club and make it an event. Try to get a local news channel, news paper, what ever media you can to try and cover it. It might help with your search for a major sponcer for the playboy mansion run.

The cancer institute sounds great but the hospital may not go for it since some patients may be too ill and the noise/excitement of the cars & space needed to be set aside for a start location may not be what the hospital would be looking for. If they're good with it, that would be a nice start place. It doesn't hurt to ask. Boston Children's hospital would be another that come to mind or Yale/New Haven (lock your doors) hospital.

I'd definitely like to use a B&G club as a checkpoint and have the kids all get to see the "cool cars".

We'll have to look into that. I'll have to start calling clubs in every city to find one. If anyone wants to help. a call your local clubs to ask if they have anything going on would help.

Get in touch with him and see if he would let us start there. We can have a starting BBQ and get the kids involved with washing and stickering the cars.
Touch base with him and see if he'd be ok with it and then I can talk to him if he says it would be ok to start there.

I love that idea. Those stickers were a big pain in the ass, and kids love stickers.

Sounds great Knighty! That would rock. Television coverage of all the kids having a blast will be an awesome way to get our name out there, and with the Boys & Girl's club association it just makes it even better! Let us know when you find out.
