Posted from Dale Clough,
I'm sure he won't mind you editing it to fit the sponsor you would like to send it to.
Good morning.
I’d like to take a couple moments of your time to share some information regarding your smart-phones and their application in a recent charity event.
For the past four years a small group of driving enthusiasts (casually referred to as “petrol-heads”) participate in an annual charity road rally based in New England. The group is The New England Rally and can be found here:
www.newenglandrally.com with forums here:

For the past four years we have been hosting an annual 1,500 mile road rally/poker rally to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of New England. This year over 20 cars endured 36-plus hours of driving through some of northern New England’s beautiful roads and locations. I’ve attached the write-up for your review. We are a bunch of petrol-heads, not writers so please excuse any errors contained in the document.
During our event we learned of Google Latitude and the ability to “track” using Blackberry Smart-phones and Latitude. During several critical times regarding navigation, construction and route preference we were able to see where the other vehicles were, in real-time, and see progress (or in some cases, traffic jams).
Personally, my Curve 8320 through T-Mobile helped me navigate through the challenging interchanges in Bangor and Portland, ME. Benefitting from the real-time status, my “group” watched a lead-pack enter a significant traffic jam at the intersection of the Kancamangus Hwy (Rt. 112) and Rt. 113 in Conway, NH. Our ability to “see” their lack of progress aided our group and we saved a significant amount of time by choosing an alternate route.
The winning moment was when the lead-pack, stuck in traffic, saw our path on Latitude and chose to follow our route. This event is not a race but bragging rights for finishing a stage first makes for great conversation.
Even in this challenging economic time our group of “regular Joe’s” with regular jobs, normal lives and normal financial challenges were able to raise near $1,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Salisbury, MA.
As we head toward the 5th Annual New England Rally we are looking to expand our exposure to a larger market and help raise awareness of the challenges facing organizations like the Boys and Girls Clubs face.
I’d like to open a dialog with the appropriate group regarding a sponsorship agreement between RIM/Blackberry and The New England Rally. Once plugged-in I can provide a sponsorship agreement document and have the appropriate people from the NER teleconference to begin putting this together.
I would appreciate contact via telephone or reply to this e-mail. I’m confident that there’s an opportunity for all parties to benefit upon reaching a sponsorship agreement.

During our event we noticed that the majority of our participants we using manufacturer-equipped, portable or fixed-mount (2 motorcycles participated this year) Garmin GPS’s. During several critical times regarding navigation, construction and route preference we were able to view real-time traffic, were alerted of construction, and enjoyed the most recent and accurate maps available.
Personally, my nuvi750 helped me navigate through the challenging interchanges in Bangor and Portland, ME, extreme north-east NH and thru the Adirondack Mountains of NY. During the rally my “group” watched a lead-pack enter a significant traffic jam at the intersection of the Kancamangus Hwy (Rt. 112) and Rt. 113 in Conway, NH. Our ability to “see” the traffic flow in real-time aided our group and we saved a significant amount of time by choosing an alternate route, provided by the GPS option.
The winning moment was when the lead-pack, stuck in traffic, saw our path on Google Latitude-equipped smart-phones and chose to follow our route. This event is not a race but bragging rights for finishing a stage first makes for great conversation. It was with a coy smile we shared that our real-time traffic equipped GPS saved the day for us.

Google was done through their website, no e-mail addresses.
Use my format at will, edit as you feel necessary.
Cheers and let's all work for some support for 2010.
